Full Building BMS Upgrade • InterContinental Sydney

Intercontinental Sydney undertook a major BMS replacement project in early 2024, where a specification was created by a Consultant, in view of taking the building to the next generation and future proofing it.

During the tender review there was a company that had submitted a tender price substantially lower, however, when the reference checks were carried out, based on feedback, a decision was made to select GSTEC. The installation of the BMS has taken approximately 7 months, in the midst of operating 509 rooms at nearly full capacity, plus restaurants and 15 function spaces in the heritage component of the building. From the planning stages, right up to the end of the project, the allocated Project Manager and the site team were an absolute pleasure to work with. They always prioritized our customer needs with daily interactions with the hotel, bringing to our attention any further improvements and recommendations outside their project, which had no benefit to GSTEC.

Having worked on many projects over the years, it was also interesting to note that the Project Manager was most often on site, tracking the progress, including letting the Hotel know when there may have been items that may have not been required, with cost saving opportunities.

The BMS installation has also taken the hotel to a new dimension with extensive work carried out by GSTEC to incorporate guestrooms and a few other third party installations. A recent presentation was carried out to the Institute of Hotel Engineers, by myself, which was acknowledged by every Engineer and Consultant attending, to be a perfect installation.

A successful project is made by the selection of the correct product, however more important the team on site. The team was well managed, with great written and verbal communications, daily notification on works to be carried out and follow ups after practical completion.
